Foreword
Allen and York's Energy group is enjoying its most successful Quarter ever, signalling that the job market for specialist Renewables, Low Carbon and Energy Management professionals is at its strongest. Traditionally a difficult time for recruitment, the start of 2008 has proven a continued upward growth trend predicted from 2007.
This is a Quarter in which the EU Commission produced a Renewables Directive that the UK should supply 15% of its energy by renewable sources by 2020, therefore circa 40% of UK electricity - great news, particularly for Wind Power, but also for Biomass, Marine and Hydro. It's a move backed by IEA, who recently encouraged governments to "continue the trend of setting renewable energy technology milestones," and to "reduce planning, regulatory, trade and other barriers to change in the energy sector".
There is some concern that UK policies are too weak to meet this target, despite some of the best natural resources in Europe. The upshot however is clear to Allen and York, that the skills to deliver against these targets are available. In addition to a display of current job opportunities, please see our guidance on VISAs/Work Permits and a Case Study of recent work with The Co-operative Group.
