Foreword
Ronald Reagan - 40th President of the United States of America - said that “All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under a desk.” With this quote in my mind, the 13th issue of the Allen & York newsletter will look at the recent British Energy (BE) takeover by EDF.
French group EDF agreed to takeover British Energy for £12.5 billion to kick start the UK’s nuclear power strategy. They have taken control of all British Energy’s nuclear power stations and are currently in the planning stages of developing new stations in the UK.
The Prime Minister, in support of Reagan’s quote said, “Nuclear is clean, secure and affordable and will save more than 14 million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year moving towards a low carbon future.”
BE currently employs 6,000 people whom EDF pledged they would ‘recognise and appreciate’ the importance of their employees and preserve their rights under their original terms. Alongside the safeguarding of existing employees, EDF’s investment in the British nuclear industry will help create thousands of skilled jobs.
Allen & York’s Energy Group work with many of the major utilities and consultancies that operate within the wider power generation sector. We play an integral part in ensuring the future security of the UK energy market by identifying and supplying our clients with appropriate and tailored recruitment solutions in-line with their requirements.
Finally, we’re sure that storing nuclear waste under a desk might raise a few eyebrows today so it is worth bearing in mind that our Health and Safety and Waste groups can assist in providing some comprehensive solutions here.
This month newsletter highlights another fine selection of our most recent energy vacancies. This is by no means exhaustive so don’t hesitate to get in touch with the energy group for a chat.
